Regent Institute for Higher Studies having provided 15 years of educational excellence to students in Gampaha had its Annual Awards Ceremony to commemorate the Graduating Class of 2016 on the 2nd of June 2016 at BMICH.The event was graced by Chief Guest The Speaker of the Parliament Hon. Karu Jayasuriya, Guest of Honour The Deputy Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Mr.ArindamBagchi and Special Guest Founder/President of ‘The International Schools of Sri Lanka ’Dr. Frank Jayasinghe.
Awards were given out to graduates who had successfully completed their course of study at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) via Regent Institute who is the sole partner institute for IGNOU in Sri Lanka.
IGNOU is considered the largest university in the world in terms of enrolled students, as it serves the educational aspirations of over 4 million students through 21 Schools of Studies and a network of 67 regional centers and 29 overseas partner institutions. IGNOU courses at Regent Institute has enabled students to pursue internationally accredited courses providing both flexibility and quality learning introducing Multimedia based open and distance learning mode of study to Sri Lanka in 2006. IGNOU is a University Grants Commission approved university and is equally approved in UGC’s of SAARC and Commonwealth countries giving IGNOU students the opportunity to pursue careers or education overseas.
In addition Diplomas were also presented to students who had successfully completed the Regent Institute Diploma in Primary Education, which was formulated to prepare aspiring young adults to pursue their desire to teach .The course has produced count less numbers of high quality primary teachers who had been secure teaching jobs at Regent International College in Gampaha as well as other leading international schools in the country.
In his keynote speech The Deputy Indian High Commissioner Mr.Bagchi spoke of the many positives and opportunities that could be obtained from pursuing an Indian Higher Education qualification and assured the quality of education provided at IGNOU. He then concluded his speech quoting the words of Mahatma Gandhi “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever”.
The Speaker of the Parliament Hon. Karu Jayasuriya in his address spoke of the rich history behind the Sri Lankan education system and commended Regent Institute for providing high quality education for people in and around Gampaha .He then congratulated The Graduating Class of 2016 on their achievements and encouraged all the graduates to be good citizens and to help in the endeavor to develop Sri Lanka into a powerhouse in Asia.
The valedictorian speech was given by IGNOU Master of Business Administration Graduate Mr. Sunil D.B. Abeyaratne, who is an Attorney-at-Law and the former secretary of the Bar Association. Mr. Abeyaratne conveyed his great appreciation to Regent Institute and its staff for providing exemplary service and spoke of the many benefits he was able to reap by engaging in a MBA qualification from IGNOU.
Awards for Excellence sponsored by Litro Gas Lanka Limited were then presented to Mrs. Navanthi Nalani Perera ,Mr.S.M.D.C Sooriyarachchi and Mr.Jayantha Basnayake for their outstanding performance in IGNOU Master of Business Administration qualification.
This years Awards Ceremony was testament to not only the achievements of the Graduating Class of 2016 but also to the commitment shown by Regent Institute in shaping graduates who are capable of taking on whatever challenge life has to throw at them.
